Spring Fever? Get Ready with these Quick and Easy Organizing Tips!

It feels like 2019 was the year of never-ending winter for most the country. Frigid cold temperatures coupled with far too much snow was a common theme for most of us.

The good news though... Spring is FINALLY in the air! And, if you're anything like the Room to Breathe team, the warmer days have you feeling pumped up and ready to tackle spring cleaning and organizing! (We have a hunch that Marie Kondo's Netflix show 'Tidying Up' has given us all a little extra pep in our organizing step...)

Time and time again, we hear from our clients that they simply don't know where to start when it comes to home organizing - and the best advice we have for this is to start SOMEWHERE - pick a project that makes you feel excited, and go with it. Progress over perfection is always our motto, so don't get bogged down with the details - just pick a room and do your best.

Below are a few simple, easy-win projects to get your organizing inspiration flowing. Try one or two and see where they take you.

OVERHAUL YOUR CLOSETS

Pull everything out of your closet and go through piece by piece, keeping only the items that are in good repair, that fit you well, and that you truly love. Donate or consign whatever no longer fits into the criteria above. Now is also a great time to move bulky knit sweaters and wool base layers further toward the back of your closet, making way for t-shirts and lighter spring/summer clothes closer to the front.

CLEAR SPACE FOR SUMMER

Front entry ways, garages, patios, and sheds are all ideal places to focus a little energy on before summer hits.

  • Now is (almost) the time to start packing away winter coats, hats, and mittens, leaving space for beach bags, towels, and bike helmets.

  • Garages benefit from a good sweep and some rejigging to clear space for summer sporting equipment, camping gear, scooters, skateboards, and bikes.

  • Patios, decks, and outdoor spaces are itching to be adorned with planter boxes, BBQ's, and outdoor furniture. Spend some time wiping everything down and staging your outdoor living space so you are ready to go as soon as sunnier days arrive more permanently.

  • Plan your garden - you can start seeds indoors now, and be ready to transplant them outdoors once the final frost has passed.

PLAN A LINEN REFRESH

Designate a day to wash your duvets, mattress pads, pillows and pillow liners - anything that doesn't get freshened up as regularly as some of our other bedding. Now is also the perfect time to pull everything out from your linen closet, purging any old towels or sheets that are no longer used, and swapping out warmer winter linens for lighter summery ones.

As always, if you are finding you are ultimately feeling overwhelmed or like you could use some extra guidance, get in touch - this is the work we live for! We have honed our skills and expertise through years and years of practice, and are here to help guide you through the organizing process thoroughly and quickly.

We offer a free, no obligation in-home consultation to go through your organizing wish-list and come up with a detailed and customized action plan. We can also work within pretty much any budget and are completely non-judgemental - intent on meeting you wherever you are at.
